A Brief Introduction
These rail journeys are designed for dedicated rail enthusiasts and include vintage and scenic rail travel, rail experiences, as well as rail and transport museums. I’ve listed quite a number of things to see and do but I would suspect that even the most hardcore enthusiasts will find themselves overloaded so I have suggested some alternative activities throughout the journey. Most of the travel is by train but in several instances, I have suggested renting a car while in a particular city for convenience.
Some of these train museums are operated by non-profit groups that are only open on certain days and during events like steam festivals etc. thus it’s important to prioritize your visits on one or more scheduled events and to consider skipping some of these museums on off days. This will save you from the disappointment of being confronted with a seemingly abandoned railyard dotted with rusty rolling stock.
